Works in Progress 6/3 – “Geisha Collage” & “Sunflower Sculpture”

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

I am currently, actively, working on two pieces – while others are on side design walls or put away temporarily. Both pieces are silk. I will refer to them as “Geisha Collage” and “Sunflower Sculpture.”

The “Geisha Collage” was begun in one of my quilt group workshops and had nothing to do with Geisha’s or anything particularly Asian. It was originally to be one 18″ X 18″ block. As you will see below, it has taken on a life of its own.

Keep in mind that these are my personal snap shots, so you won’t be seeing the beautiful photos my husband takes until the piece is completed.

The first photo is just pieces and beads put on one block to get a feel for where I was going. I have since decided to use other beads (pearls), as I was unable to find more of the original beads and had very few of them.

The second photo is an arrangement of 7 blocks on my design wall. The blocks, obviously are not yet complete and I have not decided on the final arrangement.

“Sunflower Sculpture” has been quilted and I have just begun cutting and shaping the sculpture. The final shape has not yet been decided upon.
