*Italian Pork Braised in Milk

¼ cup olive oil
2 Tbsp. lightly chopped fresh sage leaves
2 large cloves garlic
1 tsp. kosher sale
½ tsp. black pepper
¼ tsp. red pepper flakes or 2 medium size dried Marisol chiles
1 boneless pork loin roast (we used wild boar loin once), 2-1/2 to 3 lbs.
2 Tbsp. unsalted butter
½ cup dry white wine
2 cups whole milk
1 Tbsp. cornstarch
1 Tbsp. cold water
Salt and pepper to taste

Puree oil, sage, garlic, salt, pepper, pepper flakes, and zest in a mini food processor; coat roast with mixture. (I do this early in the morning and allow it to marinate for 2-3 hours, but this is not necessary if you are short on time – or didn’t think about making dinner until you stopped for lunch.)

Sear roast in butter until browned on all sides. Deglaze the pan with the wine; cook until the liquid is reduced by half.

Pour milk into a slow cooker; add roast and deglazing liquid. Cover; cook until roast is fork tender – n high-heat setting for 4-5 hours or on low-heat setting for 6-7 hours. Remove the roast and keep it warm.

Puree sauce in slow cooker until smooth; transfer to a saucepan. Bring sauce to a boil. Dissolve cornstarch in water; add to sauce. Boil sauce 30 seconds; season with salt and pepper.

Slice pork and serve with sauce.

I am currently, actively, working on two pieces – while others are on side design walls or put away temporarily. Both pieces are silk. I will refer to them as “Geisha Collage” and “Sunflower Sculpture.”

The “Geisha Collage” was begun in one of my quilt group workshops and had nothing to do with Geisha’s or anything particularly Asian. It was originally to be one 18″ X 18″ block. As you will see below, it has taken on a life of its own.

Keep in mind that these are my personal snap shots, so you won’t be seeing the beautiful photos my husband takes until the piece is completed.

The first photo is just pieces and beads put on one block to get a feel for where I was going. I have since decided to use other beads (pearls), as I was unable to find more of the original beads and had very few of them.

The second photo is an arrangement of 7 blocks on my design wall. The blocks, obviously are not yet complete and I have not decided on the final arrangement.

“Sunflower Sculpture” has been quilted and I have just begun cutting and shaping the sculpture. The final shape has not yet been decided upon.

Welcome to Fabrics of Life. This is my first time with a web site and active blog. My plan is to use the blog to let those who are interested see works in progress. Besides being addicted to art quilting and fiber art, my husband and I are “foodies” and love to cook – even when we are busy with our other artistic pursuits. So, I will also share some recipes with you.
Tomorrow, 6/3, I will post photos of two works in progress and a recipe for busy artists – “Italian Pork Loin Braised in Milk” (adapted from a recipe from “Cuisine at home Slow Cooker Menus”).
